ROB HUDAK
ARTIST STATEMENT:
My printmaking explores the spirit of inanimate objects that surround us. Taking objects that have personal meaning from the streets of my neighborhood or from my own collection, I try to capture their physical essence in the transfer of the print while giving the impression of the object a new life through design and color. While making the print I work as if I am an animator creating keyframes on the paper to bring a spirit and meaning out of the object. I consider them as animations or paintings as much as they are prints. My inspiration comes from the earthy archival qualities of archeological rubbings, the spiritual context and mystery of the Shroud of Turin, and from printmakers like H.N. Werkman who created compositions with printing blocks and wood type.
